Description
Boy Carrying Coal is a painting based upon a photo of a boy actually walking from a wooded area carrying a bucket of coal. The photo was taken around 1900 by an unknown photographer. It struck me because the boy was smiling even though the coal appeared very heavy and he had a long way to walk. There were no houses visible in the surrounding area. The woods behind him looked a little spooky. It was snowing. His clothes didn't fit very well. His coat was old and well worn. His pants were uneven. His boots were beaten up pretty bad. In spite of these things he seemed alright, and intent on completing his chore. Hard work had not dampened his spirit. In fact, he seemed to take it in stride. I found him inspiring and this is my version of his image.

This is special--I have not seen a coal bucket like that since, well, maybe my childhood. The soft texture is comforting and the clothes, although modest and suggesting wear also suggest style--dignity is always in style. I read your description--there is elegance in the words as there is in your work--you connected, but I am an Elvis fan, I'm just saying.
